It is with profound sadness and a heavy heart that we announce the passing of a true Ghanaian music icon, Charles Kwadwo Fosu, affectionately known to the world as Daddy Lumba (DL). He departed from us today, Saturday, July 26th, 2026, leaving behind an irreplaceable void in the hearts of Ghanaians and music lovers worldwide.

For over three decades, Daddy Lumba wasn't just a musician; he was a phenomenon, a storyteller, a unifier, and a constant soundtrack to the lives of millions. From the moment he burst onto the scene with his groundbreaking album "Yereye Aka Akwantuo Mu" in 1989, featuring the timeless hit "Wo Ho Kyere," it was clear that a star of immense magnitude had arrived.

DL's music was a rich tapestry woven with diverse themes. He masterfully blended highlife, contemporary gospel, and intricate lyrical prowess to create a sound that was uniquely his own. He sang about love in all its complexities, from the exhilarating highs to the agonizing lows. He touched on social issues, offered words of encouragement, and celebrated Ghanaian culture with an unmatched passion.

His discography is a testament to his versatility and his deep understanding of the human experience.
Who can forget the infectious rhythms of "Aben Wo Aha," the poignant storytelling of "Sika Asem," the soul-stirring melodies of "Theresa," or the uplifting messages in his gospel hits like "Adom Bi"? Each song was not just a tune but an emotion, a memory, a part of our collective Ghanaian identity. His live performances were legendary, characterized by his charismatic stage presence and an undeniable connection with his audience.

Beyond the music, Daddy Lumba was known for his innovative spirit and his ability to consistently reinvent himself, remaining relevant through changing musical landscapes. He inspired countless artists and left an indelible mark on the Ghanaian music industry, paving the way for future generations. His influence can be heard in the works of many contemporary musicians, a testament to his enduring legacy.

Today, as we mourn his passing, we also celebrate the extraordinary life of a man who gave so much of himself through his art. Daddy Lumba's music will continue to resonate, bringing joy, comfort, and nostalgia to generations to come. Though his physical presence may be gone, his voice, his melodies, and his profound impact on Ghanaian culture will live on forever.

Our deepest condolences go out to his family, friends, and the countless fans who adored him. Rest in peace, Oheneba Charles Kwadwo Fosu. Thank you, Daddy Lumba, for the music, the memories, and for being an eternal light in the heart of Ghanaian music. You will be sorely missed, but never forgotten.
